Equity PAC endorses Alida Bryant and Christina Elmore for 17th Circuit Court

Equity PAC strongly endorses both Alida Bryant and Christina Elmore in their campaigns for Kent County Circuit Court. Equity PAC sees this as a priority race for equity in Kent County.

Judge Christina Elmore was appointed to the 61st District Court in February of 2016 and elected to the bench in November of 2016. She began her legal career as a Judge Advocate General in the US Air Force where she served for 13 years on active duty and in the reserves. Judge Elmore also served as Assistant County Prosecutor for Kent County and an Assistant Attorney General for the Michigan Department of Attorney General. She earned her bachelor’s degree from University of Michigan and her law degree from Tulane University. She is an alumnae of Ottawa Hills High School.

Alida Bryant has had a long career in law. She was endorsed in 2016 during her campaign for Kent County Prosecutor, and Equity PAC is proud to continue their endorsement for her Circuit Court campaign. Ms. Bryant has served for over 24 years in the Kent County Office of the Public Defender. Originally a native of Baltimore, she received a degree in Political Science and Accounting Mount St. Mary’s University and then attended Drake University for her law degree.

“The judicial system is often the last stop for many people in the school to prison pipeline. Our 17th Circuit Court is responsible for felony cases, divorces and child abuse and neglect. Furthermore it hears appeals from local government boards such as zoning. It is absolutely vital that we have judges willing to consistently apply an equity-lens to these issues, and both of these candidates will do that,” says Jeremy Moore of Equity PAC.

Judge Elmore and Ms. Bryant are vying for two vacancies on the Circuit Court among four total candidates. The 17th Circuit Court has never had an African American woman serve as a judge. We encourage you to vote for both Ms. Bryant and Judge Elmore on November 6th.
